Information on the Books for Babies program

Books for Babies is a program brought to you by the Friends of the West Branch Public Library and designed to give newborns in the West Branch area a jump-start on development and learning by promoting reading to newborns.

To promote learning at this early age, this program provides families of newborns with several types of materials.  Included in a Books for Babies bag are guides on reading to a baby, information on the program and why you should read to your newborn, a free board book to help you get started, and a certificate to get your baby his or her first library card.

Eligibility

Books for Babies is designed for children under a year of age in West Branch and the nearby surrounding area.  All materials will be hand delivered, so all locations will need to be within short travel distances.

Please note: Books for Babies is a national program designed by Friends of Libraries U.S.A. who provide guidelines to Friends groups nationwide.  If you are not in the West Branch area and would like to find a similar service in your area, please check with your local library.

Obtaining a Packet and Notifying the Friends

The Friends would love to hear from you about a new baby in the area so that we can provide the family with a Books for Babies packet.  To let us know about a newborn, please fill out the notification form here.  If you would like to pick up a packet yourself, one may be gotten from the front desk of the West Branch Public Library.
